LYLAS

(Cleft Music)

LYLAS are deceptively gentle. Their understated mix of folk, pop, country and bluegrass expressed in an almost chamber like fashion reveal a heavier heart behind intricate melodies and clever word play. It may sound like an inflated description, but "neo-Southern goth" is an apt ballpark to start describing this unique ensemble lead by songwriter, Kyle Hamlett. Cleft house producer, Loney John Hutchins, had the pleasure of reuniting with Hamlett in Nashville, post Y2K, while standing in line at The Belcourt Theater in 2000 for a Lambchop/ Yo La Tengo show. In 2003, Cleft Music was formed, releasing their first project, LYLAS, "...Makes a Friend." This humble release was the beginning of what would become a loyal collaboration, with various singles, 2006's well reviewed, full length album, "Lessons For Lovers," and now their 2nd LP, "Do You Believe In Blood?" Cleft and LYLAS have also been known to record a few Christmas songs in their spare, holiday time. The band boasts members that also play in some of Nashville finest bands like Lambchop, Cortney Tidwell and The Features. LYLAS create music that is its own world. At times measured, meticulous, yet sweet, it might go humbly unnoticed in this very loud day we live. Cleft Music is dedicated to sharing this beautiful music with the world!
